Forty teams gathered at Carter Fields in Roxbury, Massachusetts, Saturday morning to kick off the city's fifth-annual Boston Unity Cup.
The Boston Unity Cup is a collaboration between local leaders, community organizations, non-profits, and the mayor's office.
The day started with a parade of nations where each team showcased their flag as they marched to the beat of drum group Grooversity.
Saturday's kickoff also included a youth jamboree and amputee exhibition, in addition to the series of matches.
The city-wide tournament is held every year to celebrate Boston's diverse communities through a shared love of sports.
"We are really proud of you. Everyone who is here from Nepal to Uzbekistan," said Boston City Council president Ruthzee Louijeune. "Unity is our strength as a city and I am so glad we are united today. Let this be an example every single day."
Matches will be held over the next several weeks until one team is victorious.
